Assignment #1: Presentation Development
Due: Tuesday, 7 October 2003
Congratulations on your new job! We are happy to have you here, and I am happy to get you started on your first assignment. We have been asked to create a set of presentations that introduce one our company’s products. Specifically, the client says that she will be required, in the upcoming weeks, to give presentations on the product to a wide variety of audiences. As a starting point, she would like us to create three presentations and accompanying posters, with one presentation/poster combination devoted to each of the audiences listed below:
(1) the general public (specifically a presentation for a UW-TC class)
(2) the chief financial officer of the company
(3) other people in the company (possibly for a monthly staff meeting)
Requirements:
1. Presentation: Each team member should create a presentation of 5-7 slides targeted toward one of the audiences. Each presentation should make effective use of the Master Slide feature. Additionally, each presentation should include multiple slide layouts, illustrations created within PowerPoint (table, graph, chart), and one or more imported graphics (scanned, screen captured, via Internet, etc.). You might also choose to include an animation and a slide transition, if these features are appropriate to your audience.
2. Poster: Each team member should use PowerPoint to create one 20”x30” poster to accompany the presentation. You may need to make some assumptions about how the poster will be used.
3. Branding: Collectively, the presentations should share elements that indicate that the presentations are all associated with the same organization (e.g., some type of branding).
Tips for completing the assignment : To complete this assignment, you will need to be able to a) manipulate PowerPoint features to develop effective presentations/posters for specific audiences and b) conduct research on a product and communicate the information with different audiences. Additional tips for completing the assignment include the following:
1. All presentations/posters should then be about the same product (chosen by the team).
2. The key combination “Alt-Shift-PrintScreen” will place a copy of the screen contents on the clipboard. You can then paste the screen image where you wish.
3. Your presentation should include as much actual information as possible. However, this requirement is not meant to be a showstopper. If there is information you think may be useful for a particular audience – such as dollar amounts, sales figures – and the information is unavailable, include a slot for the information in the presentation.
4. To present the same product to different audiences, you may choose to vary how you present the same information and also what information you choose to present.
Submission:
This assignment is due in E-Portfolio by the start of class on Tuesday, 10//7/03. Each student will submit one presentation, one poster, and the annotations indicated in E-portfolio. Additionally, the team should bring one printed poster to class (Mary Gates has printing).
