UW-TC TC310 Internship Program Autumn 2003 |
Assignment #8: Page Layout
Due: Tuesday, 25 November 2003
Thanks for all your hard work. I am really impressed by the commitment that all of the interns have brought to our company.
I think you will enjoy this week’s assignment. We will be preparing some sample “fact sheets” for the marketing group. This will give us an opportunity to explore our TC department’s skills in the area of page layout.
The context is this. The marketing office has decided that it would like to have product fact sheets that they can hand out to customers interested in the products. They are envisioning double sided fact sheets, with textual description on the front and some information in a side bar. The back (page 2) is to be used for quick bits of information – product specifications, quotes from satisfied readers, etc.
We have been asked to develop three candidate formats for these fact sheets. Your team should identify a single product – since the fact sheet formats will be easier to compare if all examples focus on the same product. Individual team members should each create a fact sheet that describes this product. As with all of our work, the candidate fact sheet formats should reflect the identity of our company.
Requirements:
Individual requirements:
- Each team member should use Adobe InDesign to create one sample fact sheet.
Team requirements:
- The team should identify a single product/service that the company provides. This will be the basis for all fact sheets
Additional requirements:
- Each of these instances should clearly reflect the organization’s identity.
Other considerations:
- The fact sheets should be based on real products from the company and should contain as much real information as possible.
- A fact sheet is meant to be easy to read at a glance.
Tips:
- To create a PDF version of your InDesign document, use File > Export and answer the questions.
- Because InDesign and Photoshop are both made by Adobe, their interfaces should feel similar.
- To add graphics to your layout, you can manipulate images in Photoshop and bring them into Adobe In Design.
- To add diagrams to your layout, you can manipulate diagrams in Visio and bring them into In Design.
Submission:
This assignment is due in E-Portfolio by the start of class on Tuesday, 25 November 2003. Each student will submit two versions of your InDesign fact sheet (i.e., the InDesign file as well as a PDF version of the document) and the annotations indicated in E-portfolio.
